Karl Belizaire, Managing Director
Karl Belizaire is a social enterprise advocate, adviser, consultant and trainer, who is passionate about supporting social enterprise’s to start-well, scale-up and thrive.
Karl previously co-founded a number of Bristol based social enterprise and innovation networks, including the Bristol and Bath Social Enterprise Network, and is a founding member of the Social Economy Alliance.
Elaine Flint, Director
Elaine was one of the founders of Social Enterprise Works, and Chair of the Board of Directors. Elaine is also CEO of the Wellspring Healthy Living Centre, which is an independent charity overseen by a resident-led Board of Trustees.
Wellspring Healthy Living Centre support local people to improve their health and well-being and to build the confidence to achieve their goals and transform their lives.
Julie Ellison, Director
Julie Ellison MBA, has over 10 years experience working with social enterprise and civil society organisations: Julie is a certified executive coach, European Framework for Quality Management assessor, and accredited social enterprise business adviser.
With a relevant knowledge in not-for-private-profit legal structures, sustainable business models and social impact measurement Julie brought a wealth of specialist knowledge grounded in the experience of supporting third sector organisations from start up to scale up, and through critical phases in their development. Julie is the Third sector entrepreneur in residence for the University of Bristol.
Joe Constant, Director
Joe was a Director at SEW, as well as founding his own Social Enterprise, Kick Start. After 20 years in the corporate world and lecturing at college, Joe set up Kick Start in 2006, which won the UWE award for Best Social Enterprise in 2010.
Things have come a long way since his first day with just a phone and a desk. Joe has seen the organisation grow, and still works at ground level with the people that motivated him to set up Kick Start in the first place, and is currently developing a new approach to teaching in the classroom at Bristol University.
Mike Crabbe, Director
Mike joined the Social Enterprise Works board in 2008, after retiring as a director of a small environmental and management training consultancy. Prior to running his own business he worked in the higher education sector for 25 years, mostly in the area of developing externally funded education and training projects in the EU. He is currently involved in the management and marketing of a Heritage Lottery Funded Project.
Mike sees his role, as a member of the Board, to support the Managing Director as and when required, and to contribute to decision making to ensure the viability and sustainability of SEW as a business in its own right. His areas of interest include marketing of intangible training services, concept mapping, and soft project management skills for volunteers supporting funded projects.
Nadia Crespo, Research Associate
Nadia obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Business Administration from the University of Twente, in the Netherlands, and her Bachelor’s thesis focused on the practical application of the Product Co-creation Center project for the Base of the Pyramid through social entrepreneurship for a Mexican community. This research led her to contribute as co-author in conference papers about Social Entrepreneurship and Business Development Programmes.
Also, while working on her research, Nadia set up a support centre for creating social entrepreneurs in Mexico. She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Bristol. She has experience in environmental auditing and has been volunteering for environmental causes in Bristol.
Joe Reid, Marketing Associate
Joe looked after our digital communications, which includes online platform management, digital content development, and marketing. Joe is a marketing graduate from The University of the West of England, with his dissertation encompassing an enterprise project for a children’s book company.
Joe has recently worked as a marketing assistant for a local Bristol charity that promotes cultural diversity, with a focus on online marketing and digital growth. He has experience with website development and social media engagement and also supports local start-ups with their online marketing and business strategies in his spare time.
Hannah Dud, Start-up Associate
Hannah was initially one of the volunteers part of a Bristol University programme who quickly became a key adviser for start-up support, particularly hosting surgeries and assisting with business incorporation and exploring which legal models is most suited to your social enterprise.
